Online Purchase Tax

Amazon shoppers will start to see a state tax charge on online purchases in the near future. Dr. Press's posted blog describes the burden the online tax will have on those that are already at a disadvantage financially. The post caught my eye because of its emphasis on the consumers' pocketbook, but there is the competitive advantage that online firms enjoy by not charging state tax on purchases. Businesses online and offline should be allowed to operate on a level playing; besides the extra taxes collected could relief some the state's financial woes. This article relates to the implications of online purchasing on consumers' budgets and marketplace competition.
